I'm A Slacker

Yeah, I'm a slacker. Last week was finals week so my life was a bit hectic. As a result, I don't have anything new and exciting to report. Therefore, I thought it would be the perfect week to ask for suggestions from the peanut gallery. What pop culture do you love that my lurkers should be consuming?

Oh man. I feel cheated. Not only did I have the self control to go two weeks without ripping on The Hobbit AND we knocked ourselves out this weekend painting our guest bedroom in anticipation of your arrival AND what do we have to show for it!!! A big fat goose egg...!

BTW This American Life the TV series is coming back soon.

I figure I'll have plenty to put on the list next week after a trip to the Burgh so this week I am taking it easy. Can't wait to see the redo!

My summer reading officially starts in 2 days, I need some new chick lit ideas. Valerie probly has more suggestions then you would in that category.

My guilty pleasure lately?

Girlfriends from Netflix--OK, the asides are pretty bad, but each episode so far has made me laugh out loud at least once :)

Oh, and I watch Ghost Whisperer if I am home Friday night!

My reading has been blah, but Alison, you might want to try Things I Want My Daughters to Know and Goddesses of Kitchen Avenue.

Anyone going to see Ironman or Prince Caspian?

Alison, these are some of my favorite chick-lit authors (if you haven't read them already): Jennifer Weiner, Sophie Kinsella, Jane Green, Meg Cabot (both YA and adult), Marian Keyes, Louise Bagshawe, Lauren Weisberger (author of Devil Wears Prada), and Megan McCafferty.

I'd also recommend Shannon Hale's "Austenland" and Audrey Niffenegger's "The Time Traveler's Wife."

Right now I'm reading Adriana Trigiani. Her "Lucia Lucia" was excellent and I'm just finishing "Queen of the Big Time." She's not quite chick lit but writes very good novels about women (usually in the mid-1900s).

If you want a fun read, try Stephenie Meyer's Twilight trilogy. Compulsively readable. She also has an adult sci-fi book coming out this week.

Otherwise, I don't have a lot to recommend. I haven't seen a lot of movies lately because there's usually something decent on TV most nights (but that will end soon!)

One of my students recommended the Twilight trilogy. I have it on my list. Glad to hear you liked it, Jennica.

Erin, I saw "Iron Man" last night and it is wicked awesome! It's very tongue-in-cheek but really cool. Robert Downey, Jr. is an excellent Tony Stark. If you go, stick around for a final scene after the credits.

Al, if you want "The Time Traveler's Wife" just let me know. I have it.

I agree w/ MoxieCat on most of her chick lit selections. I've been reading a lot of Jodi Piccoult (spelling?) this year. You can't go wrong w/ Sophie Kinsella for light, easy reading. Lauren Weisberger is good and I also like the Nanny Diaries (author escapes me right now). I never got into Meg Cabot for some reason but I do like Jennifer Weiner and think she has a new book coming out.

I haven't done much reading the last couple of weeks; I've been studying my travel guides for our trip to Europe.
